Can I Rely on My Local City, County Animal Control Agencies to Help Me with Rats?

One of the most useful government agencies in your community is that of the local city or county animal control agency. This group of men and women helps to take care of wild animals that may be encroached upon by your community. While rare, there are instances where bears, lions, or rattlesnakes may come into your neighborhood. Most are clearly not equipped to handle this kind of problem, and this is where this agency comes into play.

They also help when there are issues with diseased or injured animals. While raccoons and other kinds of similar animals are common to many of these areas, they can also be quite dangerous. An animal such as a raccoon can be the carrier of rabies, and this animal needs to be captured and removed immediately. It could easily bite a dog, cat, or even a person, infecting them with the virus. Therefore, the county and city agencies are there to assist you.

But What about Rats?
What is important to understand about these animals is that they pose some sort of imminent danger to the community. A rabid raccoon or skunk or a bear or lion that has gotten into your neighborhood could seriously injure someone. They are also instances that are not common. You don’t frequently see a bear in your neighborhood, so you need someone that can really help you to resolve this issue.

The same is not true of rats. Rats have been around since human beings have been around. These animals live off the innovation and survival skills of the people. In fact, every place where you could find human beings you are going to find rats as well. They have traveled on our ships and trains, eaten our food, and lived in our structures.

In addition, there are literally billions of rats on the earth. Millions of them live in almost every community across the globe, so they are common animals that a lot of private pest control companies will even provide removal services for.

It is for this reason that you cannot count on your local city or county animal control agency to assist you. In an average neighborhood, 90% of the households could very well have rats inside them. If your animal control agency removed every rat in the community, they would be up 24 hours a day, seven days a week working on nothing but this. This is how many rats are in your community.

For this reason, this is a problem you have to resolve on your own. Unless you have a seriously diseased group of rats that pose a health risk to the community, you are not going to receive any assistance here.

However, you should still contact them. If nothing else, they will have the names of businesses that can help you within your community. That can save you some time of having to look on your own. That makes at least the phone call worthwhile.
